This project required substantial site planning and engineering effort to accommodate 13 new 3 and 4 bedroom duplex housing units on a wetlands site. These homes replaced cramped 40-year-old townhouse apartments that were crowded together on a small poorly drained space. The design of the LEED Silver certified dwelling units and the site design by the BDS team focused on creating an attractive neighborhood of robustly constructed Alaska homes that engage the forested hill and the wetlands meadow for sunlight, views, and recreational opportunities. A large covered play structure near the center of the homes provides outdoor play equipment space for children; sheltering them from 160 inches of annual rain and snow fall.
