Eek, Alaska

Meeting long-term needs

Like many rural villages, Eek is mainly a boardwalk community with one dirt road connecting the airstrip with the rest of town. The existing complex, constructed in 1979 with an addition in 1982, consisted of 11 structures along with boardwalks and a decommissioned sewage lagoon. The new design consolidates as many functions as possible under one roof. The highly efficient 32,000 SF design layout includes two classroom wings and a gym wing to house a basketball court, locker rooms, kitchen facilities, career technology education, and a damp class/multipurpose room, which can be used for cafeteria functions, all designed to allow for ease of future expansion.
