This 2,500 square foot facility in Denali National Park replaced an existing outdated building. The new building houses large walk-in freezers and refrigerators along with a commercial kitchen to serve the nearby employee dining hall and an adjacent employee lounge. Another area is used to prepare lunches for visitors taking the tour buses into the park. There is a large dry storage area and a loading dock to receive bulk items for use by Aramark.
The building is designed to withstand the extreme weather at Denali. It has sloped metal roofing, and high insulation values in the thermal envelope. The exterior is stained cedar planks and a simple, elegant wood rail system around the perimeter to fit the National Park Service vernacular. The site design is environmentally respectful within this national park and considers existing vegetation, fire mitigation along with careful attention to aviary considerations.
