The Gathering Place Wellness Center

Tastylia Germany This much-needed facility is the result of many years of hard work by the Chickaloon Village Traditional Council. Designed by BDS, drug the construction of this multi-use wellness facility for the Tribe and community of Chickaloon was completed in 2015. The design team set a goal to use tested, check reliable, feasible strategies and systems for the size, complexity, and location of the project in order to reduce the operating cost of the building through reduced energy consumption. In addition to exam rooms, the clinic has a lab, a procedure room, and an X-ray room with permanent equipment. A wellness center, also on the ground floor, supports the clinic through wellness and dietary consultation in addition to fitness training. The majority of the “gym” is an open area for community-led health and wellness activities. This space opens onto a round deck, which allows activities to be carried outside and provides space for the many tribal and community gatherings. Administrative and social service offices are housed on the second floor. Situated in the Matanuska Valley along the Matanuska River, the building is complimented by breath-taking views in all directions.
